Mary Lengees, cares for Suyian, the first elephant to be rescued by Reteti Elephant Sanctuary. Reteti is the first indigenous-owned and run elephant sanctuary in northern Kenya.

Ein Schlammbad das macht glücklich:

A feel-good dirt bath is just the thing in the heat of the day. A coating of soil helps protect sensitive elephant skin by acting as both sunscreen and insect repellent. Shaba (lying down) demonstrates how it’s done for the younger orphans.

Eine gerettete Fledermaus:

A rescued and orphaned grey-headed flying fox, Pteropus poliocephalus, which is in captivity, feeds on the pollen of a flowering native eucalyptus tree.

Above her right eye is what looks like brown dirt, but this is probably a 'bat fly'. Bat flies, Nycteribiidae sp, are flattened, spiderlike flies without eyes or wings, and are seldom encountered by general collectors, as they almost never leave the bodies of their hosts. Both males and females take blood meals, thus they qualify as true parasites.

Dieser Pteropus (Fledermaus) ist erst vier Wochen alt:

Rescued grey-headed flying fox pup, Pteropus poliocephalus, at wildlife carer Bev Browns house in dinning room. Named Daniel Stanning by the person who found him, after the Australian model. Found in Pascoe Vale at the bottom of a tree clinging onto some bark. Most likely he fell of mum whilst she was out flying as he was very big and 4 weeks old already which is when they normally crèche them.

Der ewige Kreis:

On the Laikipia Plateau in Kenya, Rüppell's griffon vultures (Gyps rueppelli) and white-backed vultures (Gyps africanus) squabble over an elephant carcass (Loxodonta africana). Dozens of vultures can feed on this carcass at once, thanks to the hyenas that have opened it for them. In the background, vultures that have already fed digest their meal in a tree. Thanks to the symbiosis between vultures and hyenas, carcasses are removed from the landscape relatively quickly.

Auch Geier müssen zum Arzt:

Monitoring the health of Gorongosa's vultures requires taking meticulous measurements of every captured individual. Here, Ayla Kaltenecker, aspiring young scientist and the daughter of one of the project's lead scientists, Greg Kaltenecker, measures the head length of an endangered white-backed vulture (Gyps africanus).

Guck mal, wer da schaut:

At dusk each evening, Linda, the female would fly into roost on the corner of the balcony with the city lights beyond her twinkling.

Peregrine's are likely one of the most deadly predators, but that could be forgotten when watching them feed their chicks. Delicately picking tiny morsels off of carcasses and offering them to the chicks.

Männliche Lachse, die kämpfen:

Two wild male Sockeye Salmon [Oncorhynchus nerka] fight for mating rights in the Kennedy River on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Salmon are a keystone species in the Pacific Northwest making them a vital part of the ecosystem as much of the flora and fauna depends on them for survival.

Kleine Lachse:

There are many organizations that are involved with the conservation of wild salmon. The Wild Fish Conservancy, in Washington State, carries out research projects in rivers, lakes and near-shore habitats and focuses on the protection of native fish species and their habitats by developing and implementing effective restoration strategies.
